Take Action

Your representatives in Congress need to hear from you RIGHT NOW regarding the proposed government takeover of our health care system.  The health care ‘reform’ bill has been passed by the US House.  The bill is now before the US Senate – 100 people now hold the future of your health care in their hands.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

  1. Call your members of Congress and tell them to vote “NO” on the current health care ‘reform’ bill.
  2. Sign our petition calling for common-sense health care reforms.
  3. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to help educate others in you community as to the dangers of socialized medicine.
  4. Make a contribution at ReverseTheVote.org to pressure vulnerable House Democrats to reverse their vote on the health care bill.

Here are some talking points that you can choose from in crafting your message to Congress.

Talking Points on Health Care ‘Reform’ Bill

  • I don’t want the government dictating the types of health care that will be available to me and my family.
  • Congress should be required to enroll in the health care plan they are imposing upon American citizens.
  • This bill will actually INCREASE, not decrease, the cost of healthcare in America.
  • It’s ridiculous to take over the entire health care system to provide insurance to less than 15% of the population who are uninsured. Wouldn’t it be less expensive and simpler to just subsidize private policies for the poor?
  • Health care laws need reform, but the big government plan is the opposite of what’s needed. We need more market-based competition, like health savings accounts and transparent, competitive pricing.
  • Consumers should be in the driver seat, directing their own health care dollars.
  • The farther removed the patient is from the actual price of service, the worse the economics of health care in America will get.
  • These kind of schemes are bankrupting other nations and crippling their health care systems in the process. Why would we want to import that kind of failure?
  • Social Security is broke. Medicare is broke and both are setting the US government on a course of economic ruin. I don’t think a government with that kind of track record should be taking over what is now the most advanced health care system in the world.
  • I’m very suspicious of the huge rush to enact these health care reforms. Something this important that will affect every American should be the topic of vigourous and robust national debate with full transparency.
  • Polls have consistently demonstrated that the overwhelming majority of Americans do not want this kind of health care ‘reform.’ If this is rammed through, our representative democracy will have utterly failed and instead of representatives we will have rulers. It will be a dark day for the United States.
  • I urge you to support common sense health care reforms ideas like tort reform, elimination of government mandates and allowing the purchasing of insurance across state lines.
  • I expect you to vote AGAINST the health care ‘reform’ bill.
  • If you vote to take away my freedom to decide my own health care, I will do everything in my power to ensure you are defeated in the next election.

The only choice you care about is maintaining the status quo for your health insurance buddies. Your arguments against health care are ridiculous! I understand that you don’t want “the government” (which actually is all of us) involved in helping people get care. I’m wondering how much stock you own in health care companies? Right now there is no “freedom” in health care other than the freedom to have it or not based on what you can afford. Can’t afford health care????then you don’t get any. Health insurers and managed care administrators are what stand between doctors and patients, and their main concern is profits, which I suspect is what is also behind this website’s blatant attempt to bend the truth. Seniors (the AARP) and the AMA and other health care professionals are mainly supportive of health care legislation. Shame on Republicans and other misguided, self-interested individuals who are trying to scare people to work against their own self interest. Folks, this is just another attempt by the “Haves” to make you believe that you are better off without more options…. Options that the truly selfish fear might lessen the gold coins flowing to them from unjust business profits off of sickness and injury!

  2. Frank says:

Pamela Adams: Why is it that you simply shout general conspiracy-type theories about the “Republican ‘Haves’” and you cannot directly and specifically counter any of the FACTUAL TALKING POINTS listed above?

  3. ervin @dorothy scherer says:

    do not vote for this

  4. ervin @dorothy scherer says:

do not vote for this bill

  5. judy gard says:

don’t vote for health care reform bill…it takes too much away from the elderly. Use some common sense, which is lost.

  6. LYNN BEYTIEN says:

MY RESPPONSE IS TO PAMELA ADAMS; FIRST OFF, WE ARE A COUNTRY ;RULED BY THE PEOPLE, IF THAT IS TRUE, AND THE HEALTH CARE PLAN GOES THROUGH, THEN -WE THE PEOPLE-WOULD NOT BE RUNNING THIS GOVERNMENT. WE WOULD BE GIVING THAT FREEDOM -TO- OUR GOVERNMENT! THIS COULD BE THE FIRST STEP IN A DICTITORIAL COVERNMENT, ONE FREEDOM GONE, AND OTHERS TO FOLLOW.THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS TO HELP THE UNINSURED, AND -WE THE PEOPLE-NEED TO GET INVOLVED ENOUGH TO HELP FIND THOSE SOLUTIONS, AND IMPLEMENT THEM, THEN WE HAVE THE FREEDOM OF CREATING THE HELP AND LAWS, NOT THE GOVERNMENT THAT WE NEED TO IMPROVE LIFE, AND MOVE FORWARD. WHEN THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED THE FIRST SETTLERS FLED ENGLAND BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT PRACTICE THESE FREEDOMS. LET’S REMEMBER WHAT THIS COUNTRY STANDS FOR AND NOT FOLLOW OTHER COUNTRIES INTO HAVING DESCISIONS MADE FOR US!

  7. Douglas says:

We need this bill. Vote YES!

All the chatter about taking away options is a red herring. Through my employee benefits, I have the option of one insurance package and I pay half the premiums. If I lose my job, my whole family loses coverage. Is that the outstanding status quo the Republicans are fighting to preserve?

If the insurance companies are so good at what they do, why is it left to the government to insure the care for the elderly, the disabled, the veterans, the poor? When you look at who the government currently provides healthcare for and how well they do it, the private insurance industry looks like a weak semi-pro team by comparison.

Why do you keep turning to Ronald Reagan for inspiration. Forty some years ago he insisted that Medicare would drive us into Socialism and bankrupt the country. He was wrong on both counts. The free marketplace of the financial institutions did more harm to this country in the last year than Medicare has done in 45 years.

We’re talking about a bill that costs in the range of $800 billion over 10 years that is buget neutral. We just threw $700 billion at Wall Street last September and another $770 billion in stimulus money in March to try to save the economy. How much will health care costs escalate over the next 10 years if the Republicans get their way and we do nothing?

You say this bill takes away our freedoms and rights. You said the same thing about Social Security which now protects the elderly from living out their final years in poverty. It was said about Medicare which now provides healthcare to the country’s elderly. It was said of Medicaid and now about health care reform. Great record for the Republicans. And yet you insist on making your record 0 for 4!

The American people need this bill! Vote YES.

  8. andy says:

This bill will control our lives if voted in. Do not vote for this bill. It is time people are responsible for themselves again. I am a working man and very sick and tired of paying for the lazy and the leachers. I understand and fully realize that people become down on there luck, but all of you are well aware of what I am about to state. The majority of the uninsured are either lifelong welfare recipients who choose not to work and would rather leach off our taxes and hard work, or they are illegal immigrants stealing from our pockets once again. I am not for a new world order. I am not for saving those whom wish not to help themselves. I came from a background where i basically had nothing. Everything i have today i earned with hard work. I will be damned if i am going to let a bunch of socialists whom have no business running any form of free government take away what i have worked hard for. Do not give away what real americans have worked hard for. DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I want now part of this plan to further increase govt control of American citizens lives. Health care will be less available, and will cost more. It will bankrupt the economy.

Fix the present shortcomings with specific targeted actions,
    a. tort reform
    b. hunt our and eliminate Medicare fraud
    c. work make it possible for many more citizens to have health insurance

But above all Kill this bill for Socialized Medicine.

  10. Stacey says:

A single payer system may not be a bad idea – but this current bill was rushed and is not the answer. Pamela above states the AARP and AMA are for the bill. Does she know and understand that the AMA currently represents about 10% of the American physicans. Most of us pulled our association with the AMA long ago! And how many AARP members were asked their opinions?? Just because the Presidents of certain associations say they support it – because their associations got some perks – does not mean the majority members agree.
No matter what side of the debate you are on – how long does it take you in your job or home to make a big decision? I am betting a fairly long time. If you consider the scope of this bill – all 1900 pages – and the lack of time spent on it – and the lack of public understanding or knowledge about it – you would have to have your head in the clouds not to understand it is rushed. If we really feel a govenrment plan is the answer – then lets take a few years – mull over it all – and really be able to come up with a plan that is agreeable and that can be sustained. I highly doubt anyone has read and understands the whole bill. Why the rush? Where is the Obama’s mantra in transparency?

  11. Jeffrey says:

    Dear Doug/Pamela above:

No need to get emotional about a simple issue!! Forget about what the health care bill will or will not do for me, you or our neighbors. Forget about what the republicans or democrats want or don’t want or if it fits with a particular party line. If you can find where the principles expounded by the Senate or House Health Care bills are supported by the constitution, I would fully support it. If not, the very easy, simple answer is to vote no on health care as presented. Our Senators and Representatives are bound by their oath not to support either version when this litmus test is applied. Why is this such a hard topic? We have lost our vision for what made this country (in 200 or so short years) one of the greatest nations with the highest standard of living. It’s called freedom. Exactly what these bills take away.(Sorry Doug, you think your freedom will be increased until most Americans are on the government care version) Read your history, not your empty bag of luxuries you take for granted in this country!! Your quality of health care will be reduced in time if this bill is passed, period. That is an economic certainty. Read the bill not the national news media and judge for yourself!!

  12. Joyce says:

I am always amazed at how misinformed the general public is on the issue of insurers and their role in health care. I have been employed in that arena for nearly 25 years and my experience has proven to me that the rise in cost of health care is not singularly because of the insurance companies wanting to create greater wealth for themselves. Medicine is a business. It is always romanticized because of the way it appears. Yes, health care professionals do provide a service we all may need at some time. BUT it is still a business. YOU the consumer should be making your own decisions relating to health care. I don’t want to surrender my ability to make decisions relating to where I llive, what I should wear, what car I choose to drive, or what foods I choose to eat. WHY WOULD I WANT TO SURRENDER MY HEALTH CARE OPTIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT? WHY WOULD YOU? As I said, being employed in the area of health care insurance has opened my eyes tremendously. Health care providers raise their costs at their own will. Why? Because it makes money. When was the last time you saw advertisements for the greatly reduced fees of any hospital or physician’s office? It has been the insurers that have created options for controlling prices, not your local hospital or physician or any huge medical services network. You need to study the track record of the national health care currently available to Americans…….it’s called Medicare. OUR government tried to control prices so stringently that physician’s refused patients whose coverage was Medicare. Today I know people with other public options who are being turned away from health care offices because they don’t take the coverage provided by that particular option. WHY??? Because they don’t like the price controls. FACE IT AMERICA, MEDICINE IS A BUSINESS. Business want to MAKE money. The availability and cost of health care is not singularly the fault of insurance companies. I suggest the government take some advice from St. Jude Hospital and caregivers. They manage to provide health care with outstanding results, without prejudice and without cost to the patient. Ask yourself HOW DO THEY DO THAT? The answer in not because of government control. Tell your senator to vote NO.

  13. Patricia says:

Completely confused about what to believe. I know that a very small percentage of people need health coverage, so why can’t stimulus money be thrown at them as was done for companies like AGI and the like? I would hate to imagine what my aged parents will do if they lose coverage for vision or dental health care which I know will be taken away if this bill passes. It will also do away with a terrific plan called Medicare Part D which is great coverage for prescription drugs. What if this takes so much away from the retired folks that it causes them early sickness and ultimate death. I am curious about this because the other part of this bill that concerns me is Senator Reid of the state of Nevada’s fight to allow for federal funding of all and any abortions. Obama and Reid are seeking to block enactment of the bipartisan Stupak-Pitts compromise, adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives on November 7 by a vote of 240-194. If the government cares so much for it’s people why do THEY want to hurt us? Is this a conspiracy to do away with people, or what? As I stated I am confused and vote no on this bill for now. It is too much too fast.

  14. Pam says:

We do not want the Government governing our health…. I do not want the government in my fiances or education…

  15. emae says:

    Vote yes.

I see nothing in any of the comments that offers a better solution than to have our representatives debate this bill.

to say that those without health care are lazy, leachers, or illegal immigrants is irresponsible. To say that tihis is ‘rushed’ discounts efforts over several decades to DO SOMETHING about our health care system which is an embarassment compared to other developed nations.

  16. Lynn says:

I am on MinnesotaCare and can honestly say I am against ObamaCare, and I don’t want a govt hand out. I want to be off assistance completely. I want to work for a better life for my children, and a future when I can take care of my family w/o govt assistance. I make $10 an hour, and am being abused by my boss who refuses to pay me for my work and refuses to offer any benefits. I have been job searching for 6 months, and due to family crisis I had to enroll in MinnesotaCare.

I pay $11 a month in premiums and $3 in co-pays. I called MinnesotaCare and told them I do not understand how you can charge so little, and that I can pay more–and want to pay more. I was told that it was not possible to increase my premiums, and I don’t have to pay. But I know someone is paying these costs–and if govt were to subsidize everyone’s health care in the same manner, we would be broke in a week!

The system does not encourage people to be responsible. It creates victims. The incentive to be on MinnesotaCare is getting basically free or very reduced health care and applications for more assistance. If you earn more money, you are taken off MinnesotaCare and become one of the tax payers who fund the program. This creates divison.
But by then you have become dependant on the system. Or, it is just easier to stay in poverty because the govt will supplement your income. People who need assistance should have some sort of support. BUT at the same time, we need to promote growth in our future and in our economy. If employers had incentive to pay better wages and offer better benefits, less would be reliant on the govt. People–like myself–who can work and are working towards independance, should be allowed to pay more on MinnesotaCare so that the system starts to reflect the private market. Instead, private and govt life have become intertwined because the govt has overstepped its boundaries, and is creating a system where people can’t care for themselves (this is part of the reason why poverty is such a nasty cycle).

Govt assistance is not free or cheap–someone has to pay. And that someone is you. So it is better to take care of yourself and your family, have choices and be able to forge your own life rather than be a victim just living off a hand out.

I don’t want my kids to grow up thinking its normal to be on govt assistance. Or they have a right to govt benefits. And this goes for corporate welfare too. I want my kids to grow up building a good, stable life and giving back to their community. I want to see my kids own their own house, not live in the projects. And choose their own doctors, and make private decisions regarding their medical care not be ruled by bureacracy. And I want my kids to be able to earn a living and not be strangled by taxes. Is that too much to ask? It wasn’t when our pioneer forefathers built this country.
